OK, I'm often impressed by the people that help the homeless, but this one really got me! We were trying to get fifty-five $5 gift cards to give out for our Easter celebration. Not only did we get that, but we had $10 cards, $20 cards....and more people ask to donate than we even needed! The generosity is overwhelming! Thanks again....and again.....and again! We've got people dropping everything to get milk, people that take the place of their husbands who are too lazy to show up (just kidding guys), people that sacrifice sleep from midnight to 4:30, people that take charge of the chaos, people that give up watching Barney to make beds, serve dinner and put on a play, people that will spend four hours with their spouse making lunches, people that will scrub both sides of the mat, people that hang out with our homeless buddies and call them by name. We've got a room full of awesome people! What happens on Tuesdays and Wednesdays is a God thing!
And it's all worth it. Here's what I heard. "OK, where do we get those cards?" "Thank you so much!" "$5 to Jewel - awesome!" "We get to watch the news, that's f___in' awesome!" "I'd like to pray." "Pray that God will take me away from alcohol." "It's great to see you again." "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you." "I know that God is going to get me out of this, and I can't wait for it to happen."
During his Holy Week - know this! What you are doing is Holy! And the ground you walk on is Holy ground!
